Case studies / December 2018

One of the most prestigious Portuguese winery has chosen to acquire a PSC 80 pneumatic press with closed tank by VLS Technologies, in order to ensure a soft pressing, keeping the original characteristics of Vinho Verde intact.
VLS Technologies has started a new and important partnership with a prestigious winery of the Vihno Verde area, in the hystorical Mihho province in the far north of Portugal.
The Portuguese winery has purchased a PSC80 press for using it during the pressing phase of the Vihno Verde. A “young wine”, slightly sparkling, which can red, white or rosè but that must be consumed within one year from its bottling.

A wine which is very different from the legendary Porto for which are used other cutting-edge VLS Technologies’ technologies, such as presses and Lees Stop filters, are used. In both the cases the aim is to keep the organoleptic characteristics of the product unaltered.

VLS Technologies PSC 80 press

To get a high quality wine it is necessary to press grapes at low pressure o to extract only the 50-60% of the juice and avoid the extraction of some compounds of skins and pomace such as polyphenols, oxidizing enzymes and tannins. The aim is to keep the original characteristics of the grapes.

Thanks to the control panel in polyester reinforced by fiberglass, with a 18-programs PLC and touch screen display of the PSC 80 – a 80 hl closed drum pneumatic press -, the Portuguese winemakers can handle of the phases of the pressing of the Vinho Verde, both in automatic and in manual mode. This way they can perform a soft pressing of the grapes and guarantee the production of a high- quality wine.
